Thrilled to be continuing my collaboration with artist Eric Fong into 2024 - currently recording at Orpheus Studios with Soprano Nina Kopparhed, Mezzo Soprano Jessica Summers, Pianist Jelna Makarova, Cellist Daryl Giuliano and Guitarist Michael King

Possibly one of the most emotive subjects I've had the privilege to collaborate on. A short synopsis below:

Horton.jpg

                      Apparitions

Abandoned and decaying in cardboard boxes, a collection of thousands of glass plate negatives of portraits of patients were found in the 1990s in a cluster of decommissioned mental asylums in Epsom, Surrey. The portraits were taken by asylum officials as visual records of the hospitalised patients, now out of sight and long forgotten. They were eventually salvaged and archived at the Surrey History Centre, Woking.

Apparitions is an ongoing project inspired by this amazing collection. It focuses specifically on patients who were given pauper burials in the nearby Horton Cemetery, now an abandoned and derelict site, overgrown with trees, ivy, and brambles, and where all grave markers and headstones have been removed.
